LAKESHORE FRIENDS—

I just returned from a fantastic trip to Italy visiting Laura’s family and friends whom we have not seen in 2 years.  It was a glorious time spent in the Italian countryside, on the beach, and in the mountains of the Gargano.  We even had the opportunity to minister to people and I was able to preach at a friend’s church one Sunday.  We feel blessed that God allows us to be able to take a trip like this every couple of years.

While we were in Italy, the temperatures were mainly in the 90’s and they even peaked above 100 degrees a handful of days.  Sunshine, heat, and humidity — to me, this is what marks summer.  While summer is continuing to heat up, this Sunday at Lakeshore we'll continue in our summer series, Fruit(Full). 

Each week we have been looking at a different aspect of the Fruit of the Spirit found in Galatians chapter 5.  I have the honor of speaking on Patience.  Me speaking on patience proves that God has a sense of humor, because He knows how impatient I can be.  Preparing for this message has honestly challenged and encouraged me to rely on God’s Holy Spirit to help me be a more patient person.  I hope you get as much out of this message as I have in preparing it.

Summer at Lakeshore will heat up even more as we get ready to kick off LOVE WEEK, which will take place August 19–26.  We have been preparing service projects around our community and we are going to need an army of volunteers to fulfill each project.  Volunteer signups begin this Sunday, July 23! They tend to fill up fast, so I hope you’ll be at Lakeshore in-person this Sunday to sign up for one of the many LOVE WEEK projects we have planned.

LAKESHORE FAMILY—

The summer is in full swing here at Lakeshore and all around Rochester. Vacations, graduations, parties, and a lot of other things going on… all of which can cause us to feel like we are losing our minds. We feel like even though there are 24 hours in a day, we don’t have enough time to do everything that there is that we need to do. Running back and forth, all around… stuck in this cycle of GET THIS DONE… and we feel it in our core.

I am sure that many of us can relate to this feeling. All of us have felt like this at one time or another in our life. When we do, all that we truly want is to just sit down, relax, and have some peace.

"WE MUST ALLOW CHRIST TO BE OUR PEACE"

At the end of the day, I think that is what all of us are looking for regardless of the situation that we are in; we are all looking for peace. Unfortunately, we turn to so many different things in order to find that peace. All things that can be good in and of themselves, but also things that can leave us just as messed up as we were before if they're the only place we look for peace.

There is really only one true place where we can find peace: through a relationship with Jesus Christ. We must allow Christ to be our peace. When we do so, we'll have peace that only comes from Christ and “transcends all understanding," as Paul says in Philippians 4:7.

Make sure you make plans to be at church this Sunday as we talk more about peace in our current series, Fruit(Full). Have an amazing weekend. We'll see you Sunday!

LAKESHORE FRIENDS—

"If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love. I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete." —John 15:10-11

Joy; it can be the most elusive thing we ever chase, yet everyone chases it. It can be here today and gone tomorrow. For some, joy is a rare occurrence. Others seem to live in a constant state of joy.

This Sunday, July 9, we'll continue our Fruit(Full) series as we look at what we can do to attain and retain joy even in the difficult times of life. It should come as no surprise that what we believe about God will seriously impact the joy we experience here and now. 

If experiencing joy is something you or one of your friends in whom you’re investing need to learn, we will look forward to seeing you here at Lakeshore this Sunday.
