Ephesians 1:11-13A

Thanks for joining me in this Wednesday edition of Life Lifters. We've been looking at our new identity in Christ. If you become a Christian or when you became a Christian, if you are a Christian, you have a brand new identity. That's superduper, incredible! And Ephesians 1 talks about our brand new identity in the most depth and detail that I have found anywhere in any chapter of the Bible.

So far, we've covered seven new identifying traits of every true Christian. And today I want to talk to you about the eighth and that's this, you are included. You are included. That means we are part of this beautiful thing called the Church, this beautiful thing that in chapter five of the same book of Ephesians, Jesus calls his wife. The Church, the bride of Christ, you're included. I get that from Ephesians 1:11-13a, this is the longest of these new traits. Look at what it says, it says, "in him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will, in order that we, who were the first to hope in Christ, might be for the praise of his glory". When it says "we" in verse 11, it speaking of Jewish Christians, and it says "you also". Who's "you also'? Those are the Gentile Christians. God always came to the Jew first then to the Gentile. What's a Gentile? A non Jew. "You were chosen and included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you heard the word of truth, and believed in the Gospel that gave us salvation, you were included."
You're included. In what sense are you included? You're included in the family of God, which is the Church, the body of Christ, the bride of Christ, the wife of Christ, you're included.
When when you're a little kid, weren't you nervous when they had two people picking teams, and they say, I pick him, I pick her, I pick her, I pick him, and you're one of the last to be picked? Why? Because you wanted to be included. We all want to be included, don't we? We all want people to to let us be in their circle no matter what. But guess what? That doesn't always happen. Here's the good news in Jesus Christ. You are included. In Jesus Christ, you are part of the family. You know, when I met my wife, Sue, and I met her family man, it took a while to get in that family. But eventually I got included in the family. Same with Sue, she was in my family and our family welcomed her in. And it felt good to be included. And when you're a Christian, you're included in the most important circle of people in the universe, the Church, it's a great feeling.
You're included. You're not left out in Jesus Christ. You no longer are in isolation, you're together, you're included, you're loved, you're valued. You're an important part of this thing called the Church, the bride of Christ, the body of Christ. So you don't have to feel excluded. You're included.
Let's pray, Father in heaven. I pray that any form of isolation, any form of rejection that we wrestle with, our new identity would remind us we are included. We're included in the most valuable circle in the world, the circle of the family of God. Help us to live as included people in our new identity and Jesus Christ. In his name we pray, Amen.
