When You’re Winded

Running Life’s Race To Win, part 3 of 3
No matter how often we run life’s race to win, or train in life’s race to win, we can still become tired and exhausted during the effort. Whether it is running, boxing, or any other high endurance sport, participants at some point can become winded. What do you do when you are winded by life? In the message we will look at some biblical ways to get your second wind that are applicable to your life and also to our Home Improvements campaign that began almost 2 years ago in 2005.

“I am not like a boxer who misses his punches. I discipline my body like an athlete, training it to do what it should.”
(1 Corinthians 9:26b-27a, NLT)

I) Winded in the middle of the fight

1) We can be winded by the body blows of busyness.

2) We can be winded by the counter punches of drift.

3) We can be winded by the round after round sacrifice.

II) Getting your own second wind

“…Let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily hinders our progress. And let us run with endurance the race that God has set before us. We do this by fixing our eyes on Jesus, on whom our faith depends from start to finish. He was willing to die a shameful death on the cross because of the joy that he knew would be his afterward. Now he is seated in the place of highest honor beside God’s throne in heaven. Think about all he endured when sinful people did such terrible things to him, so that you don’t become weary and give up.”
(Hebrews 12:1-3, NLT)

1) Rid your life of all unnecessary complications.

“…Let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily hinders our progress.” (Hebrews 12:1b, NLT)

2) Remain focused on what first motivated you.

“We do this by fixing our eyes on Jesus, on whom our faith depends from start to finish.”
(Hebrews 12:2a, NLT)

3) Remember the reward that awaits the finishers.

“He was willing to die a shameful death on the cross because of the joy he knew would be his afterward.”
(Hebrews 12:2b)

III) Getting our “HI” second wind

“The Lord sparked their enthusiasm…they came and began their work on the house of the Lord Almighty, their God.”
(Haggai 1:14, NLT)

1) Where we stand today…

2) What we need to finish…

3) Your part: Will you help “knock out” the “HI” need?

“You must each make up your own mind as to how much you should give. Don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure. For God loves the person who gives cheerfully. And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others.”
(2 Corinthians 9:7-8, NLT)

“Be sure to finish the work the Lord gave you.”
(Colossians 4:17, NCV)
