Famous paintings and secret symbols?
Decoding the Da Vinci Code, part 4 of 4
Are there secret messages in the Last Supper and the Mona Lisa that Da Vinci encoded to communicate the message of Dan Brown’s book? We’ll show that it takes way more faith (and presumption) to believe Dan Brown’s conspiracy theory than it does the biblical record. We’ll look at these items wrt history and scripture.
I. LEONARDO’S PAINTINGS AND SYMBOLS
I. The Mona Lisa: What’s so funny…and who are you anyway?
“[The Mona Lisa] is neither male nor female. It carries a subtle message of Androgyny. It is a fusing of both…Computerized analysis of the Mona Lisa and da Vinci’s self-portraits confirms some startling points of congruency in their faces…it is the divine union of male and female.”
–The Da Vinci Code, p.120-121
II. The Last Supper: Who is that guy…or gal…next to Jesus?
* Mary Magdalene is pictured to the right of Jesus –The Da Vinci Code, p.243
* Mary Magdalene and Jesus are shown as a pair –The Da Vinci Code, p.244
* Peter is leaning menacingly toward Mary Magdalene slicing his blade-like hand across her neck –The Da Vinci Code, p.248
* It depicts a disembodied hand wielding a dagger –The Da Vinci Code, p.248
III. The Holy Grail: A cup used by Christ or Mary Magdalene?
- The Holy Grail, or chalice, is a metaphor for Mary Magdalene
–The Da Vinci Code, p.162, 244
“Dear brothers and sisters, if I should come to you talking in an unknown language, how would that help you? But if I bring you some revelation or some special knowledge or some prophecy or some teaching–that is what will help you. Even musical instruments…though they are lifeless, are examples of the need for speaking in plain language.
(1 Corinthians 14:6-7, NLT)
II. LEONARDO: ARTIST AND SECRET SOCIETY?
* Was Leonardo (and others) a part of the Priory of Sion?
“Trust at last cannot be hidden..Falsehood puts on a mask. [But] nothing is hidden under the sun. Fire is to represent truth because it destroys all sophistry and lies; and the mask is for lying and falsehood which conceal truth.”
–Leonardo da Vinci (1452-1519), artist, philosopher, scientist
III. ART LESSONS: WHAT WE KNOW ABOUT ART
I. God is the ULTIMATE artist and the INCREDIBLE Creator.
“God saw all that He had made, and it was very good…” (Genesis 1:31a, NIV)
II. God gives us all some CREATIVE abilities to use wisely.
“The Lord has filled Bezalel with the Spirit of God, giving him great wisdom, intelligence and skill in all kinds of crafts. He is able to create beautiful objects…” (Exodus 35:31-32, NLT)
III. God’s greatest work of art is a LIFE YIELDED to Him.
“We are God’s work of art, created in Christ Jesus to live the good life as from the beginning He had meant us to live it.” (Ephesians 2:10, Jer. Bible)
