Easter Wiped Our Slates Clean
Things You Can Take To The Bank, part 1 of 6
When we are born our lives are like a slate and as we live our lives our slate gets filled with sin, failure, rejection, and other negative things that we have done to hurt God, others, and ourselves. What do we do when our slate is covered with all these mistakes and shortcomings and hang-ups? The answer is; we give them to the resurrected Christ because in His resurrection, He wiped our slates clean of every sin, shortcoming, and failure. We will explain both how Christ wiped our slates clean and how we can be sure that we have brought our slates to Him so that he can forgive us of every item on our slates.
“A clean slate and a fresh start come from God by way of Jesus Christ.”
(1 Corinthians 1:30, The Message)
I) HOW EASTER CAN WIPE OUR SLATES CLEAN
1) Jesus rose to wipe our slates clean of ___PAST FAILURE___.
“God is the one who has forgiven us and given us right standing with Himself. Who then will condemn us?…Christ is the one who died for us and came back to life again for us…”
(Romans 8:33-34, LB)
2) Jesus rose to wipe our slates clean of __PRESENT DESPAIR__.
“Let us give thanks to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! Because of his great mercy, he gave us new life by raising Jesus Christ from the dead. This fills us with a living hope.”
(1 Peter 1:3, TEV)
3) Jesus rose to wipe our slates clean of ___FUTURE DEATH___.
“I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me will live, even though he dies.”
(John 11:25, NIV)
II) WHAT ARE YOU DOING WITH YOUR SLATE?
The Two Ways People Deal With An Unclean Slate
1) ___SELF___-Help: We try to clean our own slates.
“Before every man there lies a wide and pleasant road he thinks is right, but it ends in death.”
(Proverbs 16:25, LB)
2) __SUPERNATURAL__-Help: Let Jesus wipe your slate clean.
“He saved us, not because of the good things we did, but because of His mercy. He washed away our sins and gave us a new life through the Holy Spirit.”
(Titus 3:5, NLT)
III) HOW TO LET JESUS CLEAN YOUR SLATE
1st) Let go of the chalk: __ACKNOWLEDGE__ your sin to God.
“If we say we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and refusing to accept the truth. But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us and to cleanse us from every wrong.”
(1 John 1:8-9, NLT)
2nd) Put down the eraser: __ADMIT__ your total need for Jesus.
“Don’t be troubled. You trust in God, now trust in me…I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.”
(John 14:1,6, NLT)
3rd) Hand over the slate: _ACCEPT_ forgiveness by faith in Jesus.
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
(John 3:16, NIV)
“Yet to all who received Him, those who believed in His name, he gave the right to become children of God.”
(John 1:12, NIV)
“For it is by grace you have been saved through faith— and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it.”
(Ephesians 2:8-9, NIV&NLT)
4th) Use your new slate: __APPROPRIATE_ your new life in Jesus.
“Cleanse me… and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow.”
(Psalm 51:7, NIV)
“For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so that we can do the good things he planned for us…”
(Ephesians 2:10, NLT)
