Go With His Flow
Spir-IT, part 4 of 6
God has a flow that He wants everybody to walk in. When we walk with God, we walk in His flow. The secret to walking with God is to walk with the Holy Spirit. That is that we let Him lead us, guide us, show us, and that we in turn follow His leading, guiding, and promptings. This is what it means to “go with His flow”. When we go with our flow or with the world’s flow, we usually end up down the wrong stream. When we go with the flow of the Holy Spirit, then we live an ‘it” factor life. We will explore how to go with God’s flow in our lives.
“So I advise you to live according to your new life in the Holy Spirit. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves.”
(Galatians 5:16, NLT)
I) THE HOLY SPIRIT: GOING WITH HIS FLOW
How Does He Want To Direct Us?
1) The Holy Spirit wants to teach us about ___God’s word___.
“The Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.”
(John 14:26, NIV)
2) The Holy Spirit wants to tell us about ___God’s will___.
“But I will send you the Counselor— the Spirit of truth. He will come to you from the Father and will tell you all about me. And you must also tell others about me because you have been with me from the beginning.”
(John 15:26-27, NLT)
3) The Holy Spirit wants to talk to us about ___God’s ways___.
“The Spirit will come and show the people of this world the truth about sin and God’s justice and the judgment.”
(John 16:8, CEV)
II) THE HOLY SPIRIT AND THE “IT” FACTOR
*People who have “IT” regularly ___follow___ the Spir-IT’s guidance.
“When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth.”
(John 16:13a, NLT)
III) LEARNING TO LISTEN TO THE HOLY SPIRIT
How To Improve Your Spiritual Hearing
1) __Sensitivity__: The Spirit often speaks to the tuned in.
“Teach me to do your will, for you are my God; may your good Spirit lead me on level ground.”
(Psalm 143:10, NIV)
“So, as the Holy Spirit says: ‘Today if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts…’”
(Hebrews 3:7-8a, NIV)
2) __Stillness__: The Spirit usually speaks in a small voice.
“…but the Lord was not in the wind…was not in the earthquake…was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. When Elijah heard it, he pulled his cloak over his face…”
(1 Kings 19:11-13, NIV)
“Be still and know that I am God.”
(Psalm 46:10, NIV)
3) __Sincerity__: The Spirit speaks to those willing to follow.
“…those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires.”
(Romans 8:5, NIV)
“My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.”
(John 10:27, NIV)
4)_Singularity_: The Spirit only speaks what God’s Word says.
“When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not be presenting his own ideas; he will be telling you what he has heard… whatever he receives from me.”
(John 16:13,15b, NLT)
