The “It” Factor

Spir-IT, part 1 of 6
Why is it that some people have “it” and others don’t? The answer is people that have God’s spirit active and living in their lives have the “it” factor and those that don’t, don’t. In this opening message in the series, we will look at some basic traits of who the Holy spirit is, and what the Holy spirit does so that we can examine our own lives if we have the “it” factor.

I) So what is the “IT” factor?

* The “IT” factor is the personal ___presence___ and practical ___power___ of the Holy Spirit in a person’s life.

“God is the One who raised Christ from the dead, and He will give life through his [Holy] Spirit that lives in you.”
(Romans 8:11b, NCV)

II) Who’s the one behind “it” all?

Four Important Characteristics Of The Spir-IT

1) He is a __person__, part of the __trinity of God__.

“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.”
(Matthew 28:19, NASB)

2) He is a __presence__, the __everywhere-at-once God__.

“Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence?”
(Psalm 139:7, NIV)

3) He is a __promise__, the _down-payment of eternity_.

“The Spirit is God’s guarantee that he will give us everything he promised and that he has purchased us to be his own people.”
(Ephesians 1:14a, NLT)

4) He is a __power__, the __source of life in us__.

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you…”
(Acts 1:8a, NIV)

III) How do I know if I fully have “IT”?

Six Important Traits Of People With “IT”

1) They willingly ___invite___ the Spir-IT’s presence.

“If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!”
(Luke 11:13, NIV)

2) They desperately __depend on__ the Spir-IT’s assistance.

“And I [Jesus] will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever— the Spirit of truth…”
(John 14:16-17a, NKJV)

3) They consistently ___yield to___ the Spir-IT’s power.

“Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead be filled with the Spirit.”
(Ephesians 5:18, NIV)

4) They regularly ___follow___ the Spir-IT’s promptings.

“So I advise you to live according to your new life in the Holy Spirit. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves.”
(Galatians 5:16, NLT)

5) They faithfully ___deploy___ the Spir-IT’s gifting(s).

“It is the one and only Holy Spirit who distributes these gifts. He alone decides which gift each person should have.”
(1 Corinthians 12:11, NLT)

6) They enthusiastically ___share___ the Spir-IT’s passion.

“Do not put out the Spirit’s fire.”
(1 Thessalonians 5:19, NIV)
