Sex Is Not A Four-Letter Word

Pure Sex, part 1 of 5
We live in a culture that constantly bombards us with unhealthy sexual thoughts, ideas and temptations and as a result, many of our ideas have been twisted from what is right and many people have fallen into temptation as a result. The big question however is: “Who’s idea was it to introduce sex?” Was it a man-made idea, God’s idea, or something else? We will look at the very origins of sex examining who created it, why it was created and how to manage desire in light of the temptations that we all face.

I. THE NOTION OF SEX: WHOSE IDEA WAS IT?

“Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib and brought her to Adam. ‘At last!’ Adam exclaimed. ‘She is part of my flesh and bone!’… Now although Adam and his wife were both naked, neither of them felt any shame.”
(Genesis 2:22-23, 25, NLT)

*Sex is a GOOD idea because it’s GOD’S idea.

II)THE NATURE OF SEX: WHY IT WAS CREATED

1) God created it to produce IMAGE-BEARING CHILDREN.

“God blessed them and told them, ‘Multiply and fill the earth and subdue it.’”
(Genesis 1:28a, NLT)

2) God created it to promote INTERPERSONAL UNITY.

“As the Scriptures say, ‘A man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one.’”
(Ephesians 5:31, NLT)

3) God created it to provide INCREDIBLE PLEASURE.

“Be happy, yes rejoice in your wife… Let her… tender embrace satisfy you. Let her love alone fill you with delight.” (Proverbs 5:18-19, LB)

III) THE NURTURE OF SEX: HOW TO MANAGE IT

Keeping sex a three-letter word

1) Sex must always involve SECURITY to bring satisfaction.

“The husband should fulfill his marital duty to his wife, and like wise the wife to her husband. The wife’s body does not belong to her alone but also to her husband. In the same way, the husband’s body does not belong to him alone but also to his wife.”
(1 Corinthians 7:3-4, NIV)

2) Understand the levels of TEMPTATION AND DESIRE.

Temptation comes from the lure of our own evil desires. These evil desires lead to evil actions, and evil actions lead to death.” (James 1:14-15, NLT)

Level
Name Sink Degree Sin Factor
1
Temptation Up to your ankles Not a sin
2
Contemplation Up to your waist Entering sin
3
Actualization Over your head Dead in sin

Avoid every kind of evil.” (1 Thessalonians 5:22, NIV)

3) Realize that MONOGOMOUS isn’t MONOTONOUS.

(see the OT book of Song of Solomon)

*The greatest sex you’ll ever have is RIGHTLY REGULATED sex.
