Experiencing Grace: God’s Ultimate Sacrifice - Good Friday Service

Grace, part 2 of 2
Friday is God’s ultimate sacrifice because Jesus showed the greatest love he could show by laying down his life for his friends. It was also, the clearest love that Jesus could show because he demonstrated it while we were still sinners. And it was the most love Jesus could show as seen in some of his sayings on the cross like, It is finished, which signifies payment for sin is finished which implies that Jesus exhausted his total being to make the ultimate sacrifice for our sins on the cross. In the second half of the message we will talk about our ultimate response with our life and this is one. Pastor Vince DiPaola

I. The cross: the ultimate sacrifice

The cross-and the love of God

1. The cross is the greatest love Jesus could show.

“Greater love has no one than this,*that He lay done his life for his friends*.” (John 15:13, NIV)

2. The Cross is the clearest love Jesus could show.

“But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8, NIV)

3. The Cross is the most love Jesus could show.

Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for a good man someone might dare to die.” (Romans 5:7, NIV)

“Jesus said, ‘It is finished.’ With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.” (John 19:30b, NIV)

II. Our life: the ultimate response

“I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. I do not set aside the grace of God…” (Galatians 2:20-21a, NIV)

The cross calls us to willingly crucify anything in our life that dishonors God and damages us.

“God says: “I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.” (Jeremiah 31:34b, NIV)
