Someday, I’ll Get It Right With God
The Someday Syndrome, part 6 of 6
While God seems silent, he really isn’t yet because of Gods’ perceived silence by some they suppose that they have a whole lifetime to live before they can get it right with God. They are going to wait until they are 70 or 80 to get it right with God assuming they are going to live that long and assuming that they will even have an interest in getting it right with God without rationalizing some more. But eventually judgment day comes for everybody and some people will be surprised that they haven’t got it right with God when they die. In this message we will talk about some of the ways and choices that people make to rationalize postponing getting it right with God. And then we will clearly present the gospel of how to become a Christian so that people can stop delaying getting right with God and declare a personal faith in Him so they can not only be ready to meet God when they day but they can be ready to live for God while they are alive today.

“So, as the Holy Spirit says: ’ Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts…’” (Hebrews 3:7a, NIV)
I. Our spiritual “someday strategies”
How We postpone “Getting it right with God”
1. Pride: “I’ve always been right with God.”
“Surely I was sinful at birth, sinful from the time my mother conceived me. “ (Psalm 51:5, NIV)
2. Presumption: “I’ve got time to get it right with God.”
“Now listen you who say, ‘Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.’* Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow*. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.” (James 4:13–14, NIV)
3. Performance: “I’m trying to be good enough for God.
“For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking it all. “ (James 2:10, NIV)
II. Why these “strategies” don’t work
1. They assume heaven is based on our effort not Christ’s.
“He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of His mercy .” (Titus 3:5a, NIV)
2. God’s laws exist to make it clear we can’t earn heaven.
“…No one can be made right with God by following the law.” (Galatians 2:16c, NCV)
3. God’s laws exist to make it obvious we need a savior.
“Therefore the Law has become our tutor to lead us to Christ, so that we may be justified by faith.” (Galatians 3:24, NASB)
III. Getting it right with God, today!
Good news #1. God wants us to get it right with Him… so we must investigate and seek Him with all our heart.
“You will seek Me and find Me when you seek Me with all your heart.” (Jeremiah 29:13, NIV)
Good news #2. God will help us get it right with Him… so we must interact with God’s truth as we receive it.
“I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!” (Mark 9:24b, NIV)
GOOD NEWS #3. God did everything to get it right with us… so we must invite Christ into our life by faith alone.
“Yet to all who received Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children.” (John 1:12, NIV)
