Patience… Now! (patience)
Fulfilled (The Fruit of the Spirit), part 5 of 10
America is fast paced and so are we as a people… we hate the slow lanes, the easy life (usually!!!), the quiet moments and especially people who we can’t deal with. But God says patience is more than a virtue, it is a value! We’ll explain how patience has it’s advantages… 1) No presumption 2) No assumption. We will then provide steps to downshift your life into the patient lane.

“But the fruit of the Spirit is…*patience*…” (Galatians 5:22d)
I. The practical meaning of patience
Patience”: The attitude that waits on God’s timing for a result
Y working on whatever can be done in the mean time.
- ” Just waiting ” vs. ” Patience “
- Meaning: Sit around for results. Do all we can regardless.
- Focus: On the problem. on the process.
- Attitude: We are critical. We stay controlled.
- During It: We complain. We contemplate.
- Result: “I got what I wanted.” “I got what I needed.”
“We do not want you to become lazy, but to imitate those who through faith And patience inherit what has been promised.” (Hebrews 6:12, NIV)
II. The potential power of patience
Why patience pays
1. Patience builds our spiritual strength.
” Being strengthened with all power according to His glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience…” (Colossians 1:11, NIV)
2. Patience builds our self control.
“It is better to be patient than powerful. It is better to win control over yourself than over whole cities.” (Proverbs 16:32, TEV)
3. Patience builds our sense of faith.
“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” (Galatians 6:9)
III. The practice of patience… now!
H3. Becoming a more patient person (from James 5:7-11)
1. Develop a new perspective on patience.
” Be patient then brothers until the Lord’s coming. *See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop and how patient he is for the autumn and spring rains. You too be patient because the Lord’s coming is near.” (James 5:7–8)
” A patient man has great understanding, but a quick–tempered man displays folly.” (Proverbs 14:29)
2. Discover opportunities to love in patience.
” Don’t grumble against each other, brothers, or you will be judged. The judge is standing at the door!” (James 5:9)
“Be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other’s faults because of your love.” (Ephesians 4:2, LB)
3. Depend on the lord’s timing for patience.
“For examples of patience in suffering, look at the Lord’s prophets. We know how happy they are now because they stayed true to Him then, even though they suffered greatly for it. Job is an example of a man who continued to trust in the Lord in sorrow. From his experiences we can see how God’s plan finally ended in good, for He is full of tenderness and mercy.” (James 5:10–11)
