Living With An Attitude
Fulfilled (The Fruit of the Spirit), part 1 of 10
One of the keys to life is your attitude. It shapes what you will accomplish more than you know. God knew this and gave us help in determining our attitude with the “Fruit of the Spirit” passage. After we explain the various attitudes we can have: a) Pessimism, b) Optimism, c) Idealism, d) Realism (I can do all things through Christ), we’ll discuss how God works in our life to build into us a positive attitude by these fruit of the spirit (different from gifts of the spirit and gift of the spirit) Here we learn what the 9 fruit mean as a whole and what they do to impact our attitude.
LIVING WITH AN ATTITUDE
I. WHAT’S AN “ATTITUDE”?
“What I say is this: let the [Holy] Spirit direct your lives, and do not satisfy the desires of the human nature. For what our human nature wants is opposed to what the Spirit wants, and what the Spirit wants is opposed to what human nature wants. The two are enemies…” (Galatians 5:16-17, TEV)
* An attitude is the way we CHOOSE TO VIEW LIFE that influences how we ACT, THINK, or FEEL.
II. WHY OUR ATTITUDE IS IMPORTANT
“But when the Holy Spirit controls our lives He will produce this kind of fruit in us: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control…” (Galatians 5:22-23, LB)
* Understanding “The Fruit of the Spirit”:
1. They’re not the same as the GIFT OF THE SPIRIT.
2. They’re not the same as the GIFTS OF THE SPIRIT.
3. They’re attitudes that come from DEPENDANCE on God.
*Attitudes are important because they always reveal who we’re CONTROLLED by and what we’re TRUSTING in.
III. INCREASING YOUR “ATTITUDE ALTITUDE”
God’s Flight Schedule
Flight #1. Choose to value PEOPLE AS PRECIOUS.
“Each of you should look not only to your own interests but to the interests of others. Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 2:4-5)
Flight #2. Choose to view PROJECTS AS POSSIBILITIES.
“Of course, brothers, I really do not think that I have already won it; the one thing I do is, however is to forget what is behind me and do my best to reach what is ahead. So I run straight towards the goal in order to win the prize, which is God’s call through Christ Jesus to the life above. All of us who are spiritually mature should have this same attitude.”
Flight #3. Choose to validate the POWER OF GOD IN YOUR LIFE.
“I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation…I can do everything through Him who gives me strength.” (Philippians 4:12-13)
*God’s attitude promise:
A CONFIDENCE…
“I can do all things…” (v.13a)
…that’s ANCHORED IN CHRIST…
“I can do all things through Christ…” (v.13b)
…will always bring out GOD’S BEST IN US!
“I can do all things through Christ that strengthen me.” (v.13c)
“The [Holy] Sprit has given us life; He must also control our lives.” (Galatians 5:25, TEV)
