4 Ways to attack your anxiety … before it attacks you! (Philippians 4:6-9)
I. Refuse to be anxious about anything.
“Do not be anxious about anything …” (Philippians 4:6a)
Research on worry:
40 percent never happen
30 percent concern the past
12 percent needless about health
10 percent insignificant/petty issues
8 percent legitimate concerns
To attack anxiety, stay focused on today’s toils
“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough troubles of its own.” (Matthew 6:34, NIV)
II. Replace anxiety w/prayer in everything.
“…but in everything, by prayer and petition… present your requests to God.” (Philippians 4:6b, NIV)
“…Tell God every detail of your needs in… Prayer…” (Philippians 4:6b, JB)
To attack anxiety, give all your concerns to God.
” Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.” (1 Peter 5:7, NIV)
III. Respond with thanks in all things.
“…with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” (Philippians 4:6b, NIV)
“… always asking him with a thankful heart.” (Philippians 4:6b, TEV)
To attack anxiety, look forward to all that god will do.
“Give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” (1 Thessalonians 5:18)
IV. Reflect positively on the right things.
“Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, *whatever is *pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable– if anything is excellent or praiseworthy– think about such things.” (Philippians 4:8, NIV)
” fill your mind with those things.” (Philippians 4:8b, TEV)
“…*fix your thoughts* on them.” (Philippians 4:8b, LB)
To attack anxiety, filter how you choose to think.
“As a man thinks in his heart, so is he.” (Proverbs 23:7, KJV)
V. The result of god’s anxiety attacked plan
” If you do this, you will experience God’s peace, which is far more wonderful than the human mind can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus… Keep putting into practice all you learned from me… and the God of peace will be with you.” (Philippians 4:7&9, NLT)
