Giving To God: Treasuring Our “Trainer”

Vitamin G: Healthy Christianity, part 4 of 4
Sometimes to be healthy, we need a workout trainer to push us into the disciplines we need for growth. And we always are thankful for what he does for us. We can think of God as a Treasured Trainer.. the difference is that He not only trains us but does the workout for us. This causes us to worship God and treasure Him. We’ll talk about how to worship The Trainer with a focus on “giving” to Him: 1) Giving God our time (not just on Sundays but very moment), 2) Giving our talents (living for Him every day), 3) Giving God our treasure (the practice of tithing and managing your money effectively). The benefit is that you INVEST in things eternal! (FOCUS: Worship in Services, Stewardship, Good Sense, Crown Financial small group). Pastor Vince DiPaola

The fifth vitamin (G5) of healthy Christianity

Worship: The wholehearted expression of
giving ourselves to God (i.e. Treasuring our trainer)

I. Why we should treasure our trainer

Reasons to worship God alone

1. Because only almighty God is worthy of worship.

“Jesus said to him, ‘Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ’ Worship the Lord your God, and serve Him only.” (Matthew 4:10, NIV)

2. Because worship is the only thing God seeks of us.

“You see, the Father too is actively seeking such people to worship Him. God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth. (John 4:23b–24, NCV)

3. Because everyone will eventually bow before God.

“So that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord , to the glory of God the Father.” (Philippians 2:10–11, NIV)

II. How we must treasure our trainer

Practical “Exercises” of true worship

1. We must exercise worship through our time.

Come, let us bow down in worship let us kneel before the Lord our Maker; for He is our God and we are the people of His pasture, the flock under His care.” (Psalm 95:6–7a, NIV)

2. We must exercise worship using our talents.

“Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship.” (Romans 12:1, NASB)

3. We must exercise worship with our treasure.

“Ascribe to the Lord the glory due His name. Bring an offering and come before Him; worship the Lord in the splendor of His holiness.” (1Chronicles 16:29, NIV)

Store up for yourselves treasure in heaven … For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also… You cannot serve both God and Money.” (Matthew 6:20–21,24c, NIV)
