Work: Beyond the paycheck, part 2 of 4
Pastor Vince DiPaola

“The sluggard [lazy person] craves and gets nothing, but the desires of the diligent are fully satisfied.” (Proverbs 13:4, NIV)

Three essentials of a truly satisfying job:

1. People: You relate well with your peers.

2. Task: You match the job you are performing.

3. Impact: You believe what you do will make a difference

Developing the three essentials at work requires you to. (1 Thessalonians 4:9–12)

I. Earn love from your neighbor at work (People)

” Now about brotherly love we do not need to write you, for you yourselves have been taught by God to love each other. And in fact, you do love all the brothers throughout Macedonia. Yet we urge you, brothers, to do so more and more.” (1 Thessalonians 4:9–10, NIV)

Tips that make loving your co-workers easier:

A. See people the same way God does

B. Strive to get along with everyone.

C. Realize everyone can always care more

Everyone enjoys and benefits from a people person

I. Learn to love your labor at work (Task)

” Make it your ambition to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business and to work with your hands, just as we told you,” (1 Thessalonians 4:11, NIV)

How to work when you’re frustrated at work: (taken from Colossians 3:22-4:1)

A. Change your perspective on who you really work for

” In all the work you are doing, work the best you can. Work as if you were doing it for the Lord, not for people.” (Colossians 3:23, NCV)

B. Change your employer when you are treated unfairly

“And masters, treat your servants considerately. Be fair with them Don’t forget for a minute that you, too, serve a Master–God in heaven.”(Colossians 4:1, The Message)

Loving your work is influenced most by who you work for

III. Yearn to love your results at work (Impact)

” So that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders and so that you will not be in any need.” (1 Thessalonians 4:12, NIV)

You know you love your work when:

A. Your peers respect you for your work.
B. Your needs are met by your work.

” For God is at work within you, helping you want to obey Him, and then helping you do what He wants.” (Philippians 2:13, LB)
