Get Smart, part 12 of 12
Pastor Vince DiPaola
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.” (Proverbs 3:5-6, NIV)
I. Trusting god with all our heart
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart…” (Proverbs 3:5a, NIV)
1. Trusting God is always a matter of the heart
“Above all else, guard your heart, for it affects everything you do.” (Proverbs 4:23, NLT)
2. Trusting God begins w/ a faith–commitment to him
“But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation.” (Psalm 13:5, NIV)
3. Trusting God is not just for eternity but everyday
“ Trust in the Lord and do good. Then you will live safely in the land and prosper.” (Psalm 37:3, NLT)
II. Not relying on our own wisdom
“… And lean not on your own understanding;” (Proverbs 3:5b, NIV)
1. The trap that kills trust is self–reliance
“Do not be *wise in your own eyes*…” (Proverbs 3:7a, NIV)
2. “Trust trap” freedom is only found in god’s wisdom
“In his heart a man plans his course, but the Lord determines his steps.” (Proverbs 16:9, NLT)
III. Acknowledge god in everything
“In all your ways acknowledge Him…” (Proverbs 3:6a, NIV)
We acknowledge god every time we seek his will
“ *Seek his wil*l in all you do…” (Proverbs 3:6a, NLT)
“ Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and your plans will succeed.” (Proverbs 4:23, NLT)
IV. Life direction that makes sense
“… and He will make your paths straight.” (Proverbs 3:6b, NIV)
When we trust & acknowledge god life works right
“Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord; trust in Him and He will do this.” (Psalm 37:4-5, NIV)
“Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God… we rise up and stand firm.” (Psalm 20:7-8, NIV)
